From Times Wire Reports

Jordan’s King Abdullah II stripped his half brother and heir apparent of the title of crown prince in an abrupt shake-up.

In an emotional televised message, Abdullah told Prince Hamzeh -- a 24-year-old American college student and favorite of the late King Hussein -- that he had decided to release him “from the constraints of the position of crown prince in order to give you the freedom to work and undertake any mission or responsibility I entrust you with.”

Jordanian political analyst Labib Kamhawi said Abdullah made the move “to tell everyone that he’s firmly on the saddle.”
