It is the art world’s equivalent of the Forbes 100, and multimillionaire wheeler-dealer Larry Gagosian is at the top.

ArtReview magazine’s list of the top 100 movers and shakers on the international art scene, published Thursday, moved the New York-based art dealer and gallery owner up to first place from fourth last year. Gagosian, an L.A. native, represents the estate of Andy Warhol alongside living artists such as Jeff Koons and Richard Serra.

In second place was Glenn Lowry, director of New York’s newly refurbished Museum of Modern Art, who jumped from 14th place last year.

ArtReview isn’t the only magazine paying attention to Gagosian. Forbes reports that he and collector Peter M. Brant agreed to pay $9.1 million to settle an Internal Revenue Service civil lawsuit claiming they collaborated to avoid paying taxes on the sale of 58 paintings in the early 1990s.
