Malaysia’s highest court overturned a sodomy conviction against former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and freed him from prison.

The 2-1 ruling came six years after then-Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad fired him. Anwar was expected to travel to Germany for back surgery.

A judge said the chief prosecution witness, Azizan abu Bakar, had repeatedly changed the dates that he claimed Anwar had sexual relations with him.
