Newspaper Columnist Is Tortured and Killed

A newspaper columnist was tortured and beaten to death in Matamoros, in Tamaulipas state near the border with Texas, and the slaying could be linked to organized crime, police said.
Francisco Arratia Saldierna wrote the “Portavoz,” or “Spokesman” column, which was published in several papers. He touched on a range of issues that included organized crime.
