The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Brandon E. Adams, 22, of Hollidaysburg, Pa.; sergeant, Army. Adams died Sept.19 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., of injuries suffered Feb. 16 when a grenade exploded while he was clearing a house in Fallouja, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Steven C.T. Cates, 22, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Cates was killed Monday in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Robert S. Goodwin, 35, of Albany, Ga.; staff sergeant, Army. Goodwin was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their patrol vehicle was ambushed with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Shkin, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

Foster L. Harrington, 31, of Fort Worth; sergeant, Marine Corps Reserve. Harrington was killed Monday in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 3rd Force Reconnaissance Company, 4th Marine Division, Marine Corps Reserve in Mobile, Ala.

Adam J. Harris, 21, of Abilene, Texas; private first class, Army. Harris was killed Wednesday when he was shot by a sniper while on patrol in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Joshua J. Henry, 21, of Avonmore, Pa.; specialist, Army. Henry died Monday in Tikrit, Iraq, after his convoy was attacked with small-arms fire in Sharqat, Iraq. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.

Gregory C. Howman, 28, of Charlotte, N.C.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Howman was killed Sept. 15 in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Lance J. Koenig, 33, of Fargo, N.D.; staff sergeant, Army National Guard. Koenig was killed Wednesday when an improvised explosive device detonated while he was on patrol in Tikrit, Iraq. He was assigned to the 141st Engineer Battalion, Army National Guard in Jamestown, N.D.

Tony B. Olaes, 30, of Walhalla, S.C.; staff sergeant, Army. Olaes was one of two soldiers killed Monday when their patrol vehicle was ambushed with small-arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades in Shkin, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group at Ft. Bragg, N.C.

James W. Price, 22, of Cleveland, Tenn.; private first class, Army. Price was one of two soldiers killed Sept. 18 when their convoy vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Thomas C. Rosenbaum, 25, of Hope, Ark.; sergeant, Army. Rosenbaum was one of two soldiers killed Sept. 18 when their convoy vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Benjamin K. Smith, 24, of Carterville, Ill.; sergeant, Marine Corps. Smith was killed Wednesday in enemy action in Iraq’s Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.

Skipper Soram, 23, of Kolonia Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia; sergeant, Army. Soram was killed Wednesday when a car bomb exploded near his security post in Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Nathan E. Stahl, 20, of Highland, Ind.; private first class, Army. Stahl was killed Tuesday when his vehicle was hit by an improvised explosive device at an undisclosed location in Iraq. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Ft. Lewis, Wash.

Wesley R. Wells, 21, of Libertyville, Ill.; specialist, Army. Wells was killed Monday when his observation post was fired on by enemy forces in Naka, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (Light) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
