Hagans Carries Virginia

Marques Hagans had 283 total yards with two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass to lead No. 12 Virginia to a 31-10 victory over Syracuse on Saturday at Charlottesville, Va.

Wali Lundy had a 27-yard run for his 10th touchdown of the season for the Cavaliers, who improved to 4-0.

The Orange (2-2) drove 68 yards for a field goal on its opening possession, then managed only 41 more yards on four possessions and trailed, 21-3, at halftime.

Hagans had scoring runs of 59 and 27 yards in the first half and finished with 81 yards in six carries. The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents, 120-13, in the first half.

Hagans completed 11 of 12 passes for 202 yards.

No. 23 Maryland 55, Duke 21 -- Joel Statham threw four touchdown passes to offset several mistakes and the Terrapins (3-1, 1-0) piled up 685 yards in total offense to defeat the Blue Devils (0-4, 0-2) in an ACC game at Durham, N.C.

Vernon Davis caught three of the touchdowns -- the first of his career -- and Rich Parson had the other as Maryland won its fifth straight over Duke. Statham completed 22 of 37 passes for 362 yards, and the Terrapins had 277 yards on the ground.

No. 24 Louisville 34, North Carolina 0 -- Eric Shelton ran for three touchdowns and the Cardinals (3-0) earned their second shutout of the season in a victory over the Tar Heels (2-2) at Chapel Hill, N.C.

Shelton rushed for 86 yards to lead the Cardinals, who won their first three games for the second straight season under Coach Bobby Petrino. Brian Brohm had a touchdown run and Michael Bush ran for 82 yards.

North Carolina State 17, Virginia Tech 16 -- T.A. McLendon ran for 93 yards and a touchdown for the Wolfpack (2-1, 1-0) and kicker Brandon Pace missed a 43-yard field-goal attempt as time expired for the Hokies (2-2, 1-1) in an ACC game at Blacksburg, Va.

N.C. State solidified its reputation as one of the country’s best defenses by sacking Tech quarterback Bryan Randall 10 times and holding Virginia Tech to 192 total yards.

Wake Forest 17, Boston College 14 -- Cory Randolph threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Willie Idlette with just more than a minute left to give the Demon Deacons (3-1) the victory over the Eagles (3-1) at Winston-Salem, N.C.
