Fierce Storms Rip Across State, Destroying Homes
From Times Wire Reports
Lines of violent thunderstorms blew apart mobile homes, snapped dozens of trees and power lines, and ripped the roof off a school in Mize while classes were in session. No students were hurt.
There were no immediate reports of deaths from the storms, but officials said at least eight people were injured, including one person in critical condition. Gov. Haley Barbour declared a state of emergency in storm-damaged areas. Rural Rankin County, southeast of Jackson, had at least 17 homes destroyed.
