Amber Alerts -- A news brief in Wednesday’s Section A about the expansion of Florida’s Amber Alert system to cellphone users said Gov. Jeb Bush called it the first program of its kind in the nation. The system has been available to wireless phone subscribers nationally since May 17. Bush was the first governor to hold a news conference to encourage people to sign up for it.

“It’s another step forward in our effort to bring children home where they belong,” Bush said.
