Suspected Taliban Leader Dies in Fight
Afghan and U.S. forces killed a suspected Taliban leader during a firefight this week in the eastern province of Paktika, a military statement said.
Qari Ahmadulla was believed to have led as many as 50 Taliban militants armed with rockets and rocket-propelled grenades in the battle. Ahmadulla’s name is the same as that of the Taliban’s former intelligence chief, but Afghan and U.S. officials were unable to confirm whether it was the same person.
In the province of Oruzgan, a U.S. service member was killed Thursday in a training accident.
