The battle with starvation

Re “Season of Destruction Returns to Niger,” Aug. 7

In my dream, the pro-life president of the U.S., during a press conference, announced that America, as the strongest and most blessed nation on Earth, is leading a coalition of the willing to occupy the nation of Niger. The president justified the occupation as “our moral obligation to humanity and life.” He further stated, “We will not leave Niger until every child is fed and sheltered properly there.”

Oh, how wonderful dreams can be!

Regarding the need for an emergency fund to feed the starving people, something needs to be done to control overpopulation. For example, the population of Niger has tripled in the last 35 years from 4 million to 12 million.

Until some solution is found to control the population explosion, no amount of money will be enough to feed people whose land cannot support them, as is the case in Niger.

Re “In Niger, Hunger Hits Crisis Level,” Aug. 5

We have endless funds for wars but pocket change for starving children. One mother of a dying child wonders, “Maybe God curses us.”

A better question is when will the religious folks voice moral outrage over anything other than abortion?
