Woman Is Named White House Chef
After a six-month search, First Lady Laura Bush announced that Cristeta Comerford would be the new White House executive chef. A naturalized U.S. citizen from the Philippines, she will be the first woman and first minority in the post.
Comerford has been an assistant chef at the White House for 10 years. She worked under former executive chef Walter Scheib, who resigned in February. Comerford, 42, has been trained in classic French techniques and specializes in ethnic and American cuisine.
Comerford received a bachelor’s degree in food technology from the University of the Philippines. She has worked at Le Ciel in Vienna and was chef at restaurants in two Washington hotels.
