The Israeli withdrawal and its messages

Re “Hamastan? Gaza pullout is worth the risk,” Opinion, Aug. 17

During this time of great change and unknowing between Israelis and Palestinians, we need to positively go forward. We can do this with the support of President Bush. He should send a high-level envoy with lots of support to camp out and bring Israeli and Palestinian negotiators together.

Only a strong U.S. presence can keep a peace negotiating process going forward.

Left alone, the Israelis and Palestinians go into the past where each party has done much harm to the other. They need to go forward with the world’s, and particularly with U.S., help.

Mr. Boot, please stay on the positive side. Help create a positive reality.

Re “Troops Oust Resistant Settlers,” Aug. 18

Tell me, how does removing settlers from their homes, because Arabs don’t want to live with them, differ from apartheid and segregation?
