Race goes to the summer reruns

The weekly list of television’s 10 most-watched shows was composed entirely of reruns last week for the first time in the summer season, according to Nielsen Media Research figures released Tuesday.

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” came closest among original programs to cracking the Top 10 for Aug. 15 through Sunday. The competition program finished 11th with 8.7 million viewers, its largest audience since the 10.3 million who watched its premiere July 20.

NBC’s summer-long struggle to attract viewers to new unscripted programming continued last week with the premiere of “Tommy Lee Goes to College.”

The premiere of the six-episode series chronicling the Motley Crue drummer’s experiences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln drew slightly more than 5.2 million viewers, putting it third in its 9 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday time slot and 54th among the prime-time programs shown on the six major broadcast networks last week.

However, viewership increased nearly 17%, to 6.1 million, for a second episode shown from 9:30 to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The trend of viewers tuning away from first-run programming was also illustrated by ABC’s “Brat Camp,” which had its smallest audience -- nearly 7.3 million -- during its five-week run.
