One harmonic convergence

It was 25 years ago that neighborhood activists in Silver Lake launched a modest street festival to foster cooperation among the area’s distinct communities. On its silver anniversary, the Sunset Junction Street Fair stands as one of the biggest celebrations of the city’s pop music, with rock, dance and ethnic vibes in tow. Rilo Kiley and the Eagles of Death Metal are among the big-name locals, but this edition also tips a hat to New York, with performances by the New York Dolls, the Walkmen and John Cale. There also are outlets for R&B;, soul and world music -- including sets by Latin jazz percussionist Bobby Matos, R&B; divas Jody Watley and Chaka Khan, and the soulful Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings -- not to mention DJs likely to have attendees dancing in the street.

Sunset Junction Street Fair, 3600-4400 Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. $10 per day. (323) 661-7771.
