Guardians of family heirlooms

RE “When the Past Takes Up Residence” [Dec. 8]: I read your column with pleasure. My home is filled with items that belonged to my grandmother, mother and family friends. It is a pleasure to have them -- even the things I don’t use -- because they keep those who have passed close to me.

But it is also a responsibility that will pass to my daughter -- she will be saddled with disposing of the things she doesn’t want because her mother couldn’t bear to make those decisions.

I’m going to send copies of your column to my daughter and to another family member who has the same problem. They will surely enjoy it as much as I did.
