To Protect and Serve

Quite late the other night my wife received a phone call from one of our neighbors who was in a state of panic because someone was in her driveway breaking into her car. She was asking my wife what to do. Both my wife and this neighbor are from the Philippines. I overheard my wife’s part of the conversation: “Just call 911.... Yes, right now.... No, don’t worry, here in USA you don’t have to pay the police anything and they’ll come right away.”

Now I ask you, my fellow Angelenos, in the grand scheme of things, don’t we have an excellent police service here?
