North Carolina State women’s Coach Kay Yow will miss two games because of a recurrence of breast cancer, the school said Monday.

Yow, who earned her 600th victory at the school in December, will sit out Friday’s game against North Carolina and next week’s game against Virginia Tech.

She is expected to return to the bench against Miami on Jan. 20. Associate head coach Stephanie Glance will take over in the interim.

Yow was originally diagnosed with the disease in 1987. The school said Yow had a “limited tumor recurrence,” which has been removed surgically and treated with radiation and hormone therapy.

Yow’s doctors said the recurrence is unusual but not rare.
