Fossil Find Rearranges Dinosaur Family Tree

From Times Staff and Wire Reports

A 210-million-year-old creature scientists once thought to be a dinosaur is actually an ancient ancestor of crocodiles, say researchers who uncovered the first complete skeleton of Revueltosaurus callenderi.

Before the skeleton discovery, scientists had classified the creature as a dinosaur based on its teeth. The findings call into question the identity of several other members of the ornithischian family of dinosaurs that have also been identified only by their teeth. The team found the intact skeleton last year in the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona.
