KOCE sale should be about more than money

Share

I was disappointed to learn of Daystar’s challenge to the sale of KOCE-TV to the KOCE-TV Foundation (July 10). Is it the law of the land that a station be sold to the highest bidder? Certainly, the Coast Community College District can choose a buyer that would continue PBS affiliation and serve viewers in Los Angeles and Orange County. The Texas-based Daystar, a Christian broadcast network, is certainly not clear what benefit it would bring to Southern California viewers since there is no shortage of religious stations to serve that niche.

I am sometimes annoyed by KOCE’s fundraising, but that would be nothing compared with the 24/7 fundraising efforts of Christian broadcasters who have a permanent call-in number at the bottom of their screens for donations.
