Streep cast in ‘sound play’
Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman’s “Hope Leaves the Theater” will be presented with a cast including Meryl Streep at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Sept. 14-16.
Presented under the umbrella title “Theater of the New Ear,” it’s a “sound play,” read from scripts and accompanied by the live music of the band Parabola and sound effects by foley artist Marko Costanzo. The cast also will include Hope Davis and Peter Dinklage.
The actors play actors and characters in another play as well as members of the audience for that play.
