A much-needed dose of R and R

Tamera MOWRY spent years being paired with her twin sister, Tia, on “Sister Sister” and other Disney Channel fare, but the Pepperdine grad is going it alone these days in her own Agoura Hills digs.

Now 27, she’s in her second season as Dr. Kayla Thornton on the Lifetime network’s long-running series “Strong Medicine.” But good news for fans who wax nostalgic for the Mowry girls -- they just finished filming a new movie for the Disney Channel that will be shown in October. The Mowrys play twin witches, hence the title “Twitch.” But enough about reunions. Now for some rest and relaxation.

Movie night

I try not to play much during the week when I’m working on the series because the days are so long anyway, but I have a boyfriend, and Friday night is our night out.

He’s a news reporter, and he’s working hard too, so we’ll treat ourselves by going somewhere like Agoura Sushi. It’s always crowded, but the waiters are really nice and they get involved with you, making sure everything is OK. The whole atmosphere is nice, the way they greet you and send you off at the end. You feel like part of the restaurant, and they give you free stuff sometimes if you sit at the bar. I order the El Nino roll, with the salmon and teriyaki. It is superb.

Later, my boyfriend and I are both movie lovers, especially foreign films, so we’ll go to the Edwards Cinema at the Commons. It’s enormous, so you never have to worry about it being sold out. The last good foreign film I saw was an Italian movie, “The Last Kiss,” though I don’t speak Italian. I speak French, but like a third-grader. For dessert, we’ll stop off at Baskin-Robbins for the mint chip ice cream or to Cold Stone for the strawberry shortcake.

Pampering

On Saturday morning, we might decide to head up to the Bay Area and go sightseeing in San Francisco and then hit the wineries up north. My boyfriend’s family owns a winery up there, Oak Creek Valley, so he knows all the best places to go.

But if I decided to stay around here, I’d call my sister because, since we don’t live together anymore, we have to make a date every now and then for some bonding. We’d start out at the Burke Williams spa in Sherman Oaks, where I’d get the works -- massage, body scrub, facial, pedicure, everything. Then we’d go to the Galleria and get something to eat at P.F. Chang’s or the Cheesecake Factory. Then we’d go shopping at the Westside Pavilion. A typical pampering “girl day.”

Later we’d go to the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. I love the atmosphere -- it’s so hip and eclectic. For dinner we might go to Sushi Roku, where I love the caterpillar rolls -- smoked eel with avocado and sauce on top. After that we’ll get some gelato and then go home and just be silly and enjoy each other’s company.

Family time

On Sunday my family all goes to a nondenominational Christian church in the Valley. It’s a real family thing, but my boyfriend is usually working.

Then I like to go to Bobby’s Coffee Shop in Woodland Hills, which is kind of a hole-in-the-wall but with the best food. It’s like home cooking, and everything is so fresh-tasting. I like the simple things like steak and eggs or the pancakes.

Later in the afternoon I’ll take my dog Milano for a walk. That’s really all I do for exercise, because if you pick out something too strenuous you won’t keep it up, so I walk as much as I can. Later I’ll have a nice soak in the tub and learn my lines for the next week. As you can tell, I like to pamper myself whenever I get the chance.
