A U.S. Border Patrol Agent was shot by suspected drug traffickers Friday morning after watching them load marijuana onto a truck in a rural area near the Mexican border.

The agent, whose name was not released, suffered a minor leg wound, authorities said.

The agent was shot while pursuing the truck, which the suspects abandoned and fled on foot after being pursued by more agents. Nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana were found in the bed of the vehicle, authorities said.
