Fun! For! Free!
Expanding on a pilot program launched last year, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Department of Public Social Services are teaming up this summer to provide low-income families the opportunity to visit 18 regional museums and gardens without charge.
In addition, families receiving CalWORKs/Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and/or food stamp benefits will be offered free admission to the Big! World! Fun! Family Series at the Ford Amphitheatre, comprising 13 events featuring stories from around the world told in music, dance and spoken word.
Among the 17 venues offering free admission are the Arboretum of Los Angeles County, the California African American Museum, Descanso Gardens, the county Natural History Museum, the Skirball Cultural Center, the UCLA Fowler Museum and the USC Fisher Gallery.
The Department of Public Social Services is sending announcements of the free cultural offerings in nine languages to the 167,000 families who qualify. Free admission is conditional upon presentation of the family’s Electronic Benefit Transfer, or EBT, card.
