Freeze on Enrichment Extended to End of July
Iran injected some breathing space into the international dispute over its nuclear program, saying it would extend its suspension of uranium enrichment until the end of July to give European negotiators time to prepare an acceptable proposal.
France, Britain and Germany are trying to convince Iran to give up uranium enrichment because of fears that the process would be used to make nuclear weapons. Iran insists it would use enriched uranium only as fuel in nuclear power plants.
The Europeans are preparing a package of incentives in hopes of persuading Tehran, and a continued freeze is considered vital to moving the talks forward.
