World Military Costs Rise to $1 Trillion
Global military spending in 2004 surpassed $1 trillion for the first time since the Cold War, with the United States accounting for nearly half the total, a European think tank said.
Besides its regular defense budget, the United States has allocated $238 billion to fight terrorism since 2003, said a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute.The report said the $1.035 trillion total might be too low because countries are increasingly outsourcing services related to armed conflicts, such as training and some functions in combat zones, without classifying them as military expenditures.
