Teacups that capture moon’s every mood
Christina Kim, the founder of the bohemian fashion line Dosa, had teamed with traditional craftspeople in Korea, Cambodia, Peru, Kenya -- seemingly everywhere in the world but America, until now. The designer is collaborating with Heath Ceramics, the landmark studio in Sausalito, Calif., known for its handcrafted stoneware, to translate the ethereal spirit of her 2005 “Phases of the Moon” clothing line into ceramics.
For Kim, Heath’s classic California Modernist roots were a good match.
“I think my spirit actually comes from there,” she says of the form-function connection.
The Dosa Heath collection of teacups, which premiered last week, are based on the different shapes and shades of the moon. “Moonlight is such a beautiful color and very soft,” Kim says.
Each set consists of an elongated tray with four Asian-styled cups in varying silhouettes. They come in light and dark glazes because, Kim says, “the moon never looks the same.”

Kim will appear along with Heath Ceramics owners Robin Petravic and Catherine Bailey at a trunk show at OK from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 and from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 20.
