Fight Malaria in Haiti
The June 5 editorial “Malaria: The Sting of Death” correctly draws attention to the serious problem of malaria in Africa. But let us not go as far as Africa.
This problem is at our doorstep in a country with a long history associated with the U.S. -- Haiti. There are 5.3 million people at risk there. It is estimated that 41% of children under age 5 suffer from malaria at any point in time.
It is a shame that our government has not shown the commitment necessary to help this poor neighbor when we have the means and power to do so. What we spend in one day in Iraq could help solve the problem there.
