Truth? Don’t look for it there

As a single 55-year-old man who is 5-foot-11 3/4 (really), walks a minimum of 10 miles a week (really), goes to the gym three times a week (really) and who would never even consider online dating, I’m torn between admiration for Deanne Brandon’s daring in going online for a date (“Some Men Just Can’t Help the Tall Tales,” June 9) and sympathy for the self-deception required for thinking that any good could come of it.

As to how these men can lie about anything so obvious, they doubtless tell themselves that it’s just a ploy to land the date, and that their charisma will prevail once you meet them.
