President Viktor Yushchenko said authorities had detained suspects in the 4-year-old slaying of a journalist -- a killing that became a symbol of corruption and violence in Ukraine’s previous government. The suspects were not identified.

Georgi Gongadze, who wrote about high-level graft, was abducted in Kiev in September 2000. His decapitated body was found buried in a forest.
