Krauss and her band have it covered nicely

Wunderkinder too often wind up the stuff of “Where are they now?” investigations. Not Alison Krauss. The Illinois-bred musician started playing violin at 5, had a band of her own at 12 and has been recording for nearly 20 years -- and she’s just 33. Krauss and her Union Station band have become torchbearers for country and bluegrass music, while simultaneously contributing significantly to pushing their borders ever wider. That’s evident on their latest album, “Lonely Runs Both Ways,” a blend of smart covers of other writers’ material and solid contributions by Krauss and the other band members.

Alison Krauss & Union Station, Universal Amphitheatre, 100 Universal City Plaza, Universal City. 8:15 p.m. today. $34.50 to $75. (818) 777-3931.
