Re “Genes and Financial Fears,” editorial, March 7: Genetic predisposition is beyond the control of those afflicted. And all are likely to have some genetic predisposition or other, however minor, known and unknown. Being involuntary and shared, it is a proper risk for insurance coverage.

Overeating, promiscuity, smoking, alcohol and drug use and the like are not unlucky conditions, but voluntary behaviors that predispose to disease.

When all pay the same health insurance premiums regardless of behavior, all are encouraging and subsidizing such behavior.
