From Times Wire Reports

Russia’s security service said it had paid $10 million to informers who helped track down Chechen rebel leader Aslan Maskhadov, who was slain last week by Russian forces.

Russian authorities did not say who had received the reward, and there was no way to confirm the payment.

Officials used the announcement to tout an identical prize for the Kremlin’s No. 1 foe, Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev.
