Diplomat Named New Ambassador to U.S.

China has named a former deputy foreign minister as its new ambassador to Washington. Zhou Wenzhong succeeds Yang Jiechi, who is returning to Beijing to be a deputy foreign minister, the Foreign Ministry said.
Zhou, 59, is a former ambassador to Australia and was a diplomat in the Chinese Embassy in Washington from 1995 to 1998.
