RealNetworks Swings to Profit as Sales Rise

RealNetworks Inc., which sells songs and music-playing software on the Internet, posted a first-quarter profit as sales increased 27%. The company increased its forecasts for the year.

The Seattle-based company had a profit of $814,000, or break-even, compared with a loss of $10.4 million, or 6 cents, a year earlier, the company said. Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call had expected a 2-cent loss.

Sales rose 27% to $76.6 million.
