Ex-Justice Minister Held in ’89 Assassination Case

Colombia’s former justice minister was arrested in connection with the 1989 assassination of Luis Carlos Galan, a leading presidential candidate and anti-corruption crusader killed at a campaign rally.
Government agents detained Alberto Santofimio Botero in the coffee-growing city of Armenia after new information emerged, the attorney general’s office said. It did not reveal details.
Santofimio was detained several years ago over Galan’s assassination but was released because of lack of evidence.
