Ex-Prime Minister’s Sons Are Put on Trial
Two sons of former Prime Minister Gen. Khin Nyunt, who was ousted late last year, have been put on trial before special tribunals in Myanmar’s Insein prison, legal sources said.
The sons, Lt. Col. Zaw Naing Oo and Ye Naing Win, were charged with economic crimes, including illegal possession of foreign exchange and violation of import-export laws, the sources said. The trial began Thursday.
Khin Nyunt, who also headed the country’s powerful military intelligence apparatus, was removed from power by the ruling military junta in October, accused of insubordination and responsibility for a major corruption scandal involving his subordinates.
