* Adelphia Communications Corp. won the second of three required approvals of a $715-million settlement of a fraud lawsuit filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission. Adelphia now needs the approval of U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel in New York, who oversees the SEC suit. Most of the settlement amount will come from the sale of assets held by the Rigas family, which controlled Adelphia until its collapse.

* Edward Strafaci, former executive vice president of Lipper Holdings, was sentenced to six years in prison for overstating the value of two hedge funds by more than $300 million. He must pay $89 million in restitution.

* Tenet Healthcare Corp. said it agreed to sell 420-bed Brotman Medical Center in Culver City to a group that will include physicians on the staff of the hospital and private investors. Tenet estimated its after-tax proceeds from the sale at about $27 million.

* Johnson & Johnson said U.S. regulators rejected its application to market the antipsychotic drug Risperdal as an autism treatment.
