U.S. Officer Sentenced in Looting of Iraqi Items
An Air Force officer was sentenced to a year in prison and dismissed from service for illegally shipping home from Iraq a small arsenal of automatic weapons and hundreds of other war souvenirs.
Among the items taken by Maj. Gregory McMillion, 44, was a statue looted from an Iraqi museum, about 30 automatic rifles, six rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 1,183 Iraqi army berets and eight full uniforms.
He was found guilty in a non-jury court-martial Thursday at Eglin Air Force Base of charges that included violating an order against taking war trophies.
