A Civic Meltdown
Re “Cases Against Nuclear Plant Finally Heard,” May 16: It is with utter disgust that I learn of the possibility that taxpayers may be held responsible for the stupidity of the private contractor that ran the Hanford nuclear plant in Washington -- responsibility to the tune of possibly hundreds of millions of dollars! Were the taxpayers consulted when the decision was made to build this abomination? As top-secret projects go, of course not. Are the investors held accountable for putting money toward such a project? No. Again, the goose is looked to as she lays another golden egg. Such irresponsibility cannot be good for a country!
