A mob in a remote Guatemalan settlement set fire to six people accused of forming a band of robbers, killing four, as authorities tried to stop the violence, police said.
A 14-year-old boy was among those killed in the Friday incident in Cruz Chich, 125 miles northwest of Guatemala City. Two severely burned survivors were transported to a hospital in the capital for treatment, said Faustino Sanchez, an officer at the federal police base in Santa Cruz del Quiche.
Police responded to reports of a lynching but were blocked by a crowd armed with sticks and machetes.
