Panel to Probe Arrest of Black Studies Professor
San Francisco State officials have appointed an independent panel to investigate allegations of racial profiling after the arrest of a black professor on campus.
Antwi Akom, an assistant professor of Africana studies, was arrested by campus police Oct. 25 when he allegedly refused to show officers identification and scuffled with them after a late-night visit to his office. He was released the next day.
Akom was arraigned Tuesday on charges of battery on a peace officer and resisting arrest. He has disputed the police version of events.
