Four Killed as Protests Spread Outside Capital
Violent protests against disputed elections spread from Addis Ababa to other parts of Ethiopia, leaving four people dead. The prime minister vowed to prosecute opposition officials after days of bloody clashes, state media reported.
Police have killed at least 40 people since confrontations began Tuesday in the capital, medical officials said. Government officials put the toll at 24 civilians and seven police officers.
Protests erupted Friday in Dese, Gonder, Bahir Dar, Arba Minch, Awasa, Dire Dawa -- towns north and south of the capital that are mainly pro-opposition. Four people were killed in Bahir Dar, state TV reported.
