Royal Regime Sets Date for Local Balloting

Nepal’s royal government, which seized absolute power this year, announced a date for municipal elections, a tentative step toward restoring democracy.
The Election Commission said the polls, to be held in all 58 municipalities across the country, were scheduled for Feb. 8, despite opposition threats to boycott the balloting and an escalating communist insurgency.
It would be the first such voting in nearly eight years.
