Rebel Chief Claims Credit for Attack
From Times Wire Reports
Chechnya’s leading warlord said he was behind last week’s deadly assault in southern Russia but that it had been carried out by regional fighters.
Shamil Basayev claimed responsibility for the assault in the city of Nalchik that officials say left at least 139 dead, including 94 attackers.
Basayev’s statement was posted on the website of the Kavkaz Center, seen as a media outlet for the Chechen rebels.
