* VeriSign Inc., the main manager of the Internet address database, said third-quarter profit increased 10% after it won more security and website registration sales. The Mountain View, Calif., company reported net income of $44.6 million, or 17 cents a share, compared with $40.4 million, or 16 cents, a year earlier. Revenue rose 27% to $414.8 million.

* K2 Inc., maker of Rawlings-brand and other sporting goods, said third-quarter net income rose 26.5% to $16.7 million as sales rose 2.1% to $340.4 million. Nonetheless the Carlsbad company cited continuing weakness in paintball product sales.

* Shares of Stamps.com Inc. rose $1.40, or 8%, to $18.52 after the Los Angeles-based seller of postage on the Internet reported that third-quarter profit climbed to $2.6 million, or 11 cents a share, from $660,000, or 3 cents, a year earlier. Sales rose 43% to $15.3 million.
