Dr. Jennifer Berman Is Getting Enough Publicity

Share

Why is your magazine subsidizing the PR efforts of Jennifer Berman (“Dr. Berman’s Sex RX,” by Anne-Marie O’Connor, Oct. 2)? A cover shot of Berman poolside in suggestive garb only solidifies the celebrity culture that has now invaded the medical community. How does this shameless coverage of an all-too-receptive “media hound” benefit those who truly suffer sexual dysfunctions?

It’s bad enough that our culture must endure the despicable media stunts of the legal community as its members become fixtures on various talking-head formats. But now we have your publication building legitimate platforms for doctors who retain publicists to ensure A-list invitations?

It’s about time someone highlighted the achievements made for women in the world of medicine. O’Connor made the article an easy read. People say that a great writer leaves an impression on the reader. Well, I can say that O’Connor definitely left an impression on me, a male. I can only imagine what she has done for females.

Berman is a remarkable Renaissance woman. Not only is she a perceptive former academic physician-cum-media superstar, but she is also a comedian: “. . . the real world out here on Rodeo Drive. . . .” What could be funnier than that?! What? She wasn’t kidding? She wasn’t? Really? Oh, never mind.
