Gun lobby: An Oct. 24 column about a bill passed by the House said that the legislation granted the gun industry “blanket immunity” from civil lawsuits. The law includes exceptions.

I am not a supporter of the National Rifle Assn. and absolutely believe in strict gun control; however, I approve wholeheartedly of the federal law to shield gun makers from lawsuits stemming from the misuse by others.

I also agree that food providers should not be held liable for the obesity of their diners the same way car manufacturers should not be held liable for the damage caused by drunk drivers.

Americans too easily blame others for their own irresponsible acts, and lawyers get rich making these cases. We all need to take responsibility for the stupid things we do, and we should not be allowed to shift the blame and costs on others.

Will the trigger guards be as effective as filters on cigarettes? I think it’s time to make weapons manufacturing a government enterprise.
