Rapist of 13-Year-Old Girl Receives 48 Years

A 34-year-old house painter was sentenced Wednesday to 48 years in state prison after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old schoolgirl he forced into his van.
Ulrich Gibson Mejia of Van Nuys admitted that on Oct. 16, 2000, he abducted and raped the girl while she was on her way to Robert Fulton Middle School.
The teenager escaped from Mejia’s van after the attack and gave police precise descriptions that helped lead authorities to the vehicle and the rapist.
