Espaliers there and over here
RE “Top-tier Technique” [Aug. 25]: I just returned from England and one of the sites I visited was the Painswick Rococo Garden in the Cotswolds. This is a garden that was first designed and created in the 1740s. It later fell into disrepair but was re-created in 1984 based on a painting done in 1748.
It has a large, beautiful kitchen garden, with many vegetables and also espaliers. I had never seen espaliers before and found them fascinating. They have several kinds of apples and pears. I really enjoyed looking at them. Then, I read your article on espaliers -- how timely!
I enjoyed reading about the espaliers.
