Michael Sheard, 65; Had Roles as Hitler, Was in ‘Empire Strikes Back’

Michael Sheard, 65, the Scottish actor who played Adm. Ozzel in “The Empire Strikes Back” and Adolf Hitler five times, including in the movie “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” died of cancer Wednesday at his home on the Isle of Wight off the southern coast of England, said his agent, Liz Hobbs.

Sheard appeared in more than 40 feature films working with Laurence Olivier, David Niven, Roger Moore, Sean Connery and others.

He was best known in Britain for his role as Maurice Bronson, the French teacher who terrorized his pupils in the long-running teenage soap opera “Grange Hill.”

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, he studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London before landing roles in several British television series.
